Designer’s Statement

Marilyn Nwora is a first-generation Nigerian-American born and raised in Houston Texas. Marilyn graduated with her bachelor's in Public Health in 2023 and is currently pursuing her Master’s in Design focused on Health at the University of Texas at Austin. As a student-athlete on the women’s track and field team, she has earned three All-Conference titles, as well as two second-team All-American titles in her junior and senior years at The University. She was the 2022-2023 Big 12 Indoor Shot Put Champion her senior year, competed at the 2023 USA Championships, and holds the second-best shot put throw in UT history. Off the field, Marilyn is passionate about giving back to her community. Marilyn serves as the Longhorn for Equity Access and Diversity (LEAD) Initiative President through which she has made a significant contribution to the athletic, campus, and greater Texas communities by partnering with nonprofit organizations. Through her involvement on the 40 Acres, Marilyn has found her voice, blossomed into an inspiring leader, and hopes to contribute to closing the gap between design and health and to use her gifts to serve the younger generations and the world around her.
